Greenpeace Virtual March - Stop Korean Whaling

The Korean government is looking to begin commerical whale hunting. According to Greenpeace, this could mean over 2000 whales killed in the upcoming year. The good folks at GP are starting up a very unique enterprise - the virtual march.

They are gathering protesters online and will project images onto the wall of the building where the Inetrnational Whaling Commission will have a meeting to decide upon Korea's request. You can learn more here. As of today, they have 10500+ participants. With only 15 days left, let's see if we can double that! Send links to all your reasonably-minded friends and family (because nobody reasonable supports commercial whaling). Monday morning, I will make the rounds at my office with signs and a camera. That's 15 new people right there.

If anybody is interested in printing up a bunch of signs and going with me to the mall this Sunday to photograph sweaty tourists holding signs in front of the US Capitol, email me here.

If not, fire up your printer, borrow your bud's digital camera and get busy.

Dick Cheney doesn't take Amnesty International seriously. Huh?

AP is reporting that DC said on tape to LK that he doesn't take AI "seriously." I am dumbfounded. Even by this man, this is an irresponsible statement. Do you think the hidden powers are pleased that DC is so transparent in his disdain for general humanity?

"Frankly, I was offended by it," Cheney said in the videotaped interview. "For Amnesty International to suggest that somehow the United States is a violator of human rights, I frankly just don't take them seriously." Read a report of the story here.

I will check for any action that can be taken to censor DC for such a statement. Check back to this site for updates.

First Direct Action post: save Social Security from Wall Street!

(Originally posted on Blogger - March 29, 2005)

OK...the cool folks at Wellstone action are asking for people to host/facilitate town hall meetings regarding the current efforts to reform SS. (Who misses Paul? Raise your hand. Now...both hands back on the keyboard at 2 and 10. The Information Superhighway can be dangerous if you're not careful.)

You can get the info and sign up to host here. Or you can sign an Internet letter from Act for Change here. Note: I personally find the rhetoric leading up to this letter to be a little strong. Come on..."unholy alliance!?" But the letter itself is OK.

I actually appluad certain efforts to review/reform some government programs (this type of activity could lead to things like universal health care, more affordable college education, maybe a more equitable Affirmative Action).

However, this effort is not one to get behind. W and this Congress simply want to pump more money into Wall Street. That will make only W and this Congress and Wall Street happy. Everyone else will see cuts in benefits, a rise in poverty rates and trillions more $$$$ of debt.

There. I said it. Now I'm off to work...but not before I sign a few Internet letters...
